Loch Lomond and Loch Ness are both iconic Scottish lochs, but they differ in size depending on the measurement used.

Surface Area

Loch Lomond is the largest lake in Great Britain by surface area, covering approximately 71 square kilometers (27.5 square miles) . In contrast, Loch Ness has a surface area of about 56 square kilometers (21.8 square miles) .

Volume

Despite its smaller surface area, Loch Ness holds a significantly greater volume of water. It contains approximately 7.45 cubic kilometers of water, making it the largest by volume in the British Isles . Loch Lomond, by comparison, holds about 2.6 cubic kilometers of water .

Depth

Loch Ness is also deeper, with a maximum depth of around 230 meters (755 feet) .  reaches a maximum depth of approximately 190 meters (623 feet) .

So, if you’re considering surface area, Loch Lomond takes the title. However, in terms of volume and depth, Loch Ness is the bigger loch.
